Definition:

"Cetacean" is the word for all mammals in the Order Cetacea, which includes whales, dolphins and porpoises.

The term cetacean comes from the Greek ketos, meaning "sea monster."

Cetaceans are further divided into two groups: baleen whales and toothed whales.

Pronunciation: "Suh-tay-shun"
Examples:
All whales, dolphins and porpoises are cetaceans.
