Definition: Migration in marine animals involves the movement from one area to another, and back again. This movement is usually related to food availability or reproduction. Examples of marine life who migrate include basking sharks, sea turtles, cetaceans, and the American lobster. These animals may travel long distances between feeding grounds and breeding grounds.
Examples:
Humpback whales undertake long migrations from high latitude feeding grounds to low latitude breeding grounds.
