Mollusca is a taxonomic phylum that contains a diverse array of organisms. These animals are referred to ask mollusks, and include snails, sea slugs, octopi, squid, and bivalves such as clams, mussels and oysters. From 50,000 to 200,000 species are estimated to belong to this phylum.
The mollusks are an amazingly diverse group of animals, but all have a soft body, which includes a 'head' and a 'foot.' They may have a hard shell, or exoskeleton, for protection.
